KINGDOM PRINCIPLES

Text: Matthew 5:1-12

Textual Thought of the Author: These twelve verses introduce the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus gives His disciples eight principles to enable a person to have God’s blessing and approval.

Main Thought of the Sermon: Living as Jesus taught enables you to have the King’s approval

I. Approval from the King Establishes Eternal Reward (vs.3, 10, 12)

II. Approval of the King is Acquired Only by an Internal Change (A New Birth)

These New Testament principles can only be performed because of a new birth (Matthew 5:20)

III. Approval of the King is Achieved by Modeling Kingdom Principles   (vs. 3-12)

    • Poor in Spirit (v.3)
    • Those who Mourn (v.4)
    • The Meek (v.5)
    • Hunger and Thirst after Righteousness (v.6)
    • The Merciful (v.7)
    • Pure in Heart (v.8)
    • Peacemakers (v.9)
    • Persecuted and Reviled for Jesus and Righteousness Sake (vs.10-12)
  • Conclusion: Kingdom People Live to Seek the King’s Approval
